Ajax Council will not permit new gas stations, self-storage facilities and car wash units within the boundaries of its employment lands.
In a resultion adopted on February 27, the council said the Town of Ajax has a fixed urban boundary and a finite amount of emplyment lands.
The town’s Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw focus on land use, and regulate how land may be used, and which types of building are permitted.
The council pointed out that the Official Plan already dictates that public storage facilities shall not be permitted in lands with the Prestige Employment designation.
“Self Storage facilities, gas stations, and car washes offer very limited employment opportunities, and their development may diminish future opportunities for more job-oriented businesses,” said the council resolution.
Consequently, new public storage facilities, new motor vehicle gas bars and washing establishments will not be permitted in any Ajax zone, the resolution said.
It directed town staff to initiate necessary implementation by April 2023.
