Just $1.25mn needed to start work on Clarington hospice

A dedicated team of volunteers has been working for years on the Clarington hospice fundraising campaign and has garnered approximately $8 million in donations.

However, due to escalating construction costs, $1.25 million in additional funds is still needed to build this project.

This home-like health care facility will address a gap in the current health care system in Clarington and provide care for individuals at the end of life and support for their families, said a municipal statement.

The hospice will be built on Cobbledick Road on three acres of land donated by the municipality. Clarington declared January 29, 2023, Durham Region Hospice-Clarington Awareness Day. Proceeds from this month’s 19th annual Clarington Golf Classic will go to support Durham Hospice – Clarington.

“I want to thank the dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring this project to the brink of breaking ground. I also want to thank my fellow council members for their compassionate and thoughtful support of this final push to build our hospice. I speak for many people when I say, I am thrilled we are about to begin this work to improve local health care for Clarington residents,” said Mayor Adrian Foster.
