Scary crash near crosswalk during students end of day

A driver apparently lost control of his truck and ended up on the green near a crosswalk even as a nearby school let students out after classes ended.

The incident happened on Monday in Goodwood, Uxbridge, said Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

“Scary single vehicle collision near a crosswalk during students end of day commute,” said a tweet from DRPS North Division.

“Please don’t speed, and drive according to road and weather conditions,” it added.

DRPS conducted ‘In The Zone’ traffic enforcement last week for back to school road safety.

Two drivers in Clarington and one in Oshawa, were charged with failing to stop for a school bus last week.

“Drivers are required to stop at least 20 metres behind a school bus when its red lights are flashing and its stop arm is activated,” police reminded.

DRPS yesterday closed of Thickson Road North and Taunton Road East for a couple of hours for a collision investigation, advising road users to consider alternative routes.

In a later Whitby update, it said eastbound lanes of Taunton Road East from Anderson Avenue to Thickson Road North have re-opened. Thank you to everyone for your patience.
