Klutch gets man who rammed cruiser and fled

Durham Police arrested a 29-year-old male after a he rammed a police cruiser before fleeing from police in Uxbridge on Sunday.

On November 8 at about 12:45 am, members of North division responded to the area of Chalk Lake Road in Uxbridge for a driving complaint call. When officers arrived they located an un-plated silver four-door Infiniti with a male occupant. Before officers had time to speak to the driver, the vehicle struck one of the police vehicles and drove away at a high rate of speed. The officers lost sight of the suspect vehicle near Myrtle Road. Officers discontinued the pursuit for safety reasons but later located the vehicle unoccupied on Lakeridge Road, said a police statement.

The K-9 Unit responded to assist and Police Services Dog Klutch located the male hiding under a tree nearby. He was taken into custody and suffered minor injuries from a bite wound. He was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

Jason Veilleux of Halls Road North in Whitby was charged with: Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Flight from Police; Drive while Under Suspension x3; Fail to Comply with Release Order x3; Possess Schedule 1 Substance (crystal meth); Fail to Comply with Probation x2 and Leave Accident Scene.

He was held for a bail hearing.
