Lake Ontario boater in distress rescued safely

DRPS Traffic Services yesterday evening reported that a boater in distress was rescued safely by its marine unit.

“Boat Distress Call on Lake Ontario. Just east of the Port Whitby Marina, a boater was reported in distress,” said the alert.

“Our marine trained officers from our Traffic Services Branch located the vessel and towed it back to shore,” it added.

It was a hot day yesterday, and it was fortunate members of the Durham Police Marine Unit were out (see image below) conducting a safety equipment initiative on Lake Ontario.

“Make sure you have all of your safety gear and your Pleasure Craft Operator Card,” police said.
