Lane closure on Winchester Road from today until late summer

The Regional Municipality of Durham has announced a lane closure on Winchester Road in the Town of Whitby.

The eastbound lane of Winchester Road will be closed, from Durham Street/Chelmsford Drive to east of Watford Street/Anderson Street, from today (May 5) until late summer. The region said unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.

The lane closures are needed to safely rehabilitate and widen Winchester Road. The lane closure will help increase safety for road users, pedestrians and work crews, allow for a more efficient flow of traffic, and aims to reduce the construction timeline.

The detour route for eastbound travellers is posted at durham.ca/WinchesterRoad.

The region said businesses in the area will remain open throughout the construction. Access to business entrances will be maintained whenever possible.

The region said it realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
