Long-awaited Josiah Henson PS opens its doors

The long-awaited Josiah Henson Public School in Pickering yesterday welcomed students for the first time.

Its opening had been delayed and parents were concerned their children would have to go to a temporary school in Ajax, causing disruption and undue stress.

“We are pleased to let you know that Josiah Henson Public School welcomed students into their new building this morning,” a spokesperson from Durham District School Board (DDSB) told Durham Post yesterday.

The opening of the DDSB school in Pickering is part of the new schools and school additions opening this fall at 41 locations across the province.

Another new school, Trillium Woods Public School, also managed by DDSB  in Ajax, is part of the $889.1 million investment in Ontario education infrastructure creates more than 17,700 student spaces and 1,650 licensed child care spaces as part of the government’s $23 billion investment to build, renew and improve schools over 10 years, according to a provincial statement.
