See how Air1 helps capture three carjackers in Durham

Durham Police helicopter, Air1, has been instrumental in the capture of three suspects after a carjacking in Oshawa.

On Saturday, September 13 at about 10:30 pm, members from Central East Division responded to a carjacking in the area of Nonquon Road and Mary Street North. The victim parked his vehicle in a lot when he was approached by three masked suspects. The suspects began assaulting the victim before leaving the area in the victim’s vehicle.

Officers located the stolen vehicle travelling northbound on Stevenson Road and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop for police and continued northbound on Stevenson Road. Officers followed the vehicle and it went westbound on Conlin Road. The driver lost control, crashing the vehicle into a field at Conlin Road and Anderson Street. The three suspects then fled on foot into the greenspace, police said.

With the assistance of Air1, all parties were located and taken into custody without incident.

The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault and was treated at a local area hospital for his injuries.

A search of one of the suspects revealed a large knife along with an Airsoft gun.

One suspect, age 30 of no fixed address, another age 19 of Scarborough and the third, age 20 also of Scarborough, have been charged and held for bail hearings.  Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

This incident marks the third violent carjacking in Durham Region over a two-week period. In all three incidents, the suspects were arrested as a result of the assistance of Air1 which has proven to be a vital resource in confronting the rise of violent crime.
