Man charged after attempted robbery with blowtorch

A 28-year-old male is in custody after he intentionally used a blow torch in an attempted robbery in Whitby, according to Durham Police.

On Wednesday, March 19, at about 5:55 am, members of Central West Division said they responded to a robbery call in the area of Dundas Street West and Annes Street. The victim was walking when they were approached by the suspect who was holding a lit blow torch demanding their personal property. The victim was able to fight back and escape. No physical injuries were reported.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident a short distance away, said police.

A 28-year-old male from Whitby was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
