Bowmanville Fire: Deceased named, King Street opens to cars

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday revealed that the victim of the Bowmanville fire has been identified as 54-year-old Kelli Faris.

A post-mortem examination found no signs of foul play, and police stated that they believe her injuries were the result of the fire. It was not explained why it took so long to identify the deceased from the March 6 fire.

Even though the family of the deceased said they had been informed about a week ago, Durham Police till yesterday maintained that the body had not been identified.

Investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) said they have concluded their examination of the scene, but efforts to determine the cause, origin, and circumstances remain ongoing.

King Street West Reopens to Vehicular Traffic

King Street West, from Scugog Street to Silver Street, has been reopened to pedestrians and traffic.

According to the Municipality of Clarington, crews have been moved to the back of the building to continue demolition work on units 69-75A, and the assessment of the structural integrity of the surrounding buildings remains ongoing.
