Durham police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a firearms incident in Oshawa that involved shots being fired and an attempted carjacking.
According to Durham Regional Police, officers from Central East Division responded to reports of an armed person in the area of Oxford Street and Stone Street just before 10:45 am on Saturday, July 19. Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported seeing a man firing a gun into the air and throwing knives.
Police say the suspect was arrested at the scene without incident, and a firearm was recovered.
Investigators determined that the man had been acting erratically before firing several rounds into the air. He then allegedly approached a vehicle, pointed the firearm at its occupants, and demanded the car. The victims were able to get out safely, and no physical injuries were reported.
