Man with hatchet tries to rob Courtice store

Investigators are looking for a male suspect in an armed robbery of a convenience store in Courtice on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 9:36 p.m., members of East Division were called to Daisy Mart Convenience store on Nash Road in Courtice. The suspect who was armed with a hatchet, entered the store and attempted to purchase items but did not have any money. The owner refused to comply and the suspect fled the scene.

Investigators are also investigating a separate incident at the Food Worth’s Variety, on Trulls Road. At approximately 8:55 p.m. a male entered the convenience store carrying a bag and walked to the counter. The suspect placed the bag on the counter and demanded money. The staff member told the suspect to leave and the suspect left on foot heading North on Trulls Road. It is believed that the suspect in this incident is also responsible for the robbery at the Daisy Mart.

Neither of the victims received any physical injuries. Officers searched the area for the suspect, with negative results.

The suspect, is described as male white, 20-35 years, approximately 5′ 10″ with a slim build. He was wearing a beige coat, a light brown hoodie and light coloured pants. The suspect was armed with a hatchet in the Daisy Mart incident.
