Meet Bryson the 2021 Scugog Junior Fire Chief

Scugog Fire & Emergency Services announce that grade 5 student Bryson Brown of SA Cawker Public School is this year’s Junior Fire Chief. Bryson’s contest poster illustrated his knowledge and understanding of the sounds of fire safety and included fire safety tips such as:

A continuous set of three loud beeps—beep, beep, beep—coming from your smoke alarm means smoke or fire. Get out, call 9-1-1, and stay out; and
A single chirp coming from your smoke alarm every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed.

On October 6, Bryson’s wish to ride in a fire truck came true when he got to spend the day with Scugog Firefighters while completing his Chief duties alongside his brother. Bryson was asked to oversee a fire drill at his school, received a tour of the fire station where he tried on firefighting gear and completed various activities, and then he received prizes from our community partners at Canadian Tire and McDonalds.

“Every year we are pleased to welcome a new Junior Fire Chief to our team. Bryson’s work as a fire safety ambassador among his peers will help us spread the message about Fire Prevention Week. We are glad to have Bryson working with us to teach people about the sounds of fire safety!” said Mark Berney, Fire Chief.
