Metrolinx, the operator of GO Transit, has announced the scheduled start of geotechnical investigative work near the Lakeshore East Rail Corridor in Whitby beginning tomorrow, September 12.
It said crews will be drilling vertical boreholes to assess ground conditions within the Lakeshore East rail corridor. This work will support future track and infrastructure updates.
Drilling is expected to take place Monday to Sunday beginning September 12 between 9 am and 4 pm The work will move within the area highlighted on the map (below) for approximately one week. Daytime working hours are scheduled whenever possible; however, some activities are scheduled overnight when the train service is not in operation, Metrolinx said.
It said residents should expect some noise, vibration, dust, and site lighting.
Staff will take reasonable precautions to minimize disturbances to residents and commuters, including but not limited to the following:
- Reduced idling of non-essential equipment.
- Pointing lights away from residential windows.
- The work area will be safely secured.
- White noise back up alarms on vehicles and machinery as required.
- Noise and vibration monitoring and mitigation measures will be applied as required.
Traffic Details
Pedestrians may be rerouted around work zones via delineated temporary detours. The northbound lane on Thickson Road between Victoria Street East and Wentworth Street is currently closed for road reconstruction, Metrolinx said.
The existing traffic control setup will remain in place and this work will not have an additional impact on motorists, it added.
