Motorist Alert: 5-10cm of snow to make driving unsafe

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Durham Region.

It said a developing low pressure centre will bring a swath of snow to the region with snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 cm and local blowing snow Thursday overnight into Friday morning.

“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” it said.

Durham Region Health Department yesterday issued an Extreme Cold Weather Alert now includes all of Durham until Thursday morning (February 24).

Ajax Public Library is a designated overnight Warming Centre at Main Branch (Rotary Room), while City of Pickering said East Shore Community Centre will be an overnight warming centre till 7 am.
