New GO train added from Whitby to Union on Saturday

Metrolinx said it is getting ready for an exciting event on Saturday, May 9, as approximately 40,000 fans are expected to travel to a Toronto FC and Inter Miami CF match at BMO Field.

To support customer travel, Metrolinx is adding and adjusting service along the Lakeshore lines to help fans get to and from Exhibition GO before and after the match.

On the Lakeshore East line, there will be a new train departing Whitby GO at 10:28, making all stops before arriving at Union Station at 11:27.

In addition, on weekends, GO trains run every 15 minutes on the Lakeshore East and West lines, providing frequent service between 3 pm and 11 pm.

It said riders can transfer for free with One Fare between GO Transit and most local transit agencies, including the DRT and TTC.

As part of preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Metrolinx is using this high-attendance event as a readiness test, applying enhanced service frequency, safety and crowd management measures, and multilingual customer communications.

“Learnings from the event will help inform and refine transit and operational plans to support safe and smooth travel during large-scale events,” said Metrolinx.
