New mosque approved for Harmony Road North in Oshawa

Oshawa Council has passed By-law Number 6-2025 on January 27 under Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, allowing for the construction of a new mosque.

The by-law refers to lands generally located at 1709 Harmony Road North as well as a portion of surplus city-owned land associated with 1661 Harmony Road North being purchased by the applicant to add to 1709 Harmony Road North.

The effect of By-law 6-2025 is to permit a new church (mosque) building as an additional permitted use with site specific regulations related to building and parking setbacks. The new zoning will continue to allow the mosque in the existing building until it is replaced, said a city announcement.

All written and oral submissions received by the City of Oshawa were considered in the making of this decision, it said.

The key map (below) shows the location of the lands to which By-law 6-2025 applies.

The lands to which this Zoning By-law Amendment applies are also subject to an application for Site Plan Approval (File: SPA-2024-09).

  1. Parking is already a huge issue here at Delpark homes centre. I can’t see where everyone is going to park if they expand.
