New ride hailing service Hopp launches in Durham

Hopp, one of Canada’s fastest-growing ride-hailing platform with over 72 million kms travelled in less than a year, is launching its services in 11 new cities across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

After a launch in Toronto, Hopp has expanded to Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa in Durham as well as to Brampton, Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, Oakville, Aurora and King City.

Existing features include an in-app reporting tool that allows riders and drivers to discreetly report unsafe driving behaviour directly to the safety team, four-digit trip pick-up codes, real-time location sharing, trusted contacts and more.

Hopp aims to better serve residents navigating work schedules, social plans, and daily travel across regions where transportation needs vary widely by community The app can be downloaded on Apple and Google Play stores.

Expanded Transportation Choices

“This expansion is about strengthening transportation choice across the GTA,” said David Riggs, General Manager of Hopp. “It means more reliable options for residents and a more open, competitive landscape for drivers.”

The expansions mark a key milestone in Hopp’s regional growth, expanding ride-hailing access for riders while creating new earning opportunities for drivers across both urban and suburban communities, said a company statement.

Hopp, by Bolt, has operations in over 50 countries and 600 cities and provides shared mobility services including ride-hailing, scooter and e-bike rental and car rental to over 200 million lifetime customers, it said.

Increasing Shared Mobility

Currently, more than 4.5 million drivers use the Bolt platform around the world. The company seeks to accelerate the transition from owned cars to shared mobility, offering better alternatives for every use case. The company’s products include ride-hailing, scooter and car rental services, food and grocery delivery and corporate mobility services, it added.

To support rider confidence and complement its existing suite of safety features, Hopp is investing more than $150 million globally over the next three years to advance safety innovation and make ride-hailing the safest way to get around, the company said.
