Nighttime lane closures on Highway 401 to last till June

The Regional Municipality of Durham has announced the construction for the Highway 401 tunnel liner decommissioning at Merritt Street in Oshawa.

The limits of the work include the Ritson Road westbound on-ramp to Highway 401, night work on Highway 401, and Merritt Street north of Bloor Street East. This contract will also require access and construction storage at the end of Howard Street, said a statement.

The region’s contractor, Tydon Contracting, was to mobilize March 24 and anticipates completing the work by June, the statement said.

Road closures and lane restrictions

The statement said nighttime lane closures on Highway 401 between Harmony Road and Simcoe Street will be required frequently in both directions throughout the duration of the construction period.

The north end of Merritt Street will be closed while maintaining access for local residents. Notification will be given to residents if vehicles need to be moved out of their driveway. Residents should expect traffic delays and are asked to exercise additional caution for the safety of the construction workers, it said.

Municipal construction projects include the use of equipment which may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby residents and businesses. The region said it realizes that the construction work will be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Further information and future updates will be posted on durham.ca/Merritt401.
