Nine-highrise complex of 3,900 units planned in Clarington

The Municipality of Clarington has announced that a complex of nine high-rise building of 30-40 storeys each is being planned for Highway 2 and Bowmanville Avenue in Bowmanville.

The municipality is seeking public comments before making a decision on an application for an Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment, and proposed plan of subdivision.

A municipal statement said Weston Consulting has submitted applications on behalf of Kaitlin Corp. for an Official Plan amendment, Zoning By-law amendment and a plan of subdivision.

The proposal will be developed in phases and consists of nine highrise mixed-use buildings with heights ranging from 30 to 40 storeys. The proposal contains approximately 3,900 dwelling units and 2,700 square metres of retail space.

It also includes outdoor private amenity space, a linear park and one level of underground parking on each of the blocks. Block B also contains a podium for a four-level above ground parking garage. The total site area is 4.8 hectares.

The land is located at 0 Prince William Boulevard, 1850 Bowmanville Avenue, and 1800 Bowmanville Avenue, Bowmanville.

Information and materials submitted in support of this application are identified and/or available for viewing at the following www.clarington.net/BowmanvilleHighrise or at the Planning and Infrastructure Services desk located at 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville from of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm during regular business days.

The public meeting will be both online or in person on Monday, June 17 at 6:30 pm at Council Chambers, Municipal Administrative Centre, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville.

Bowmanville Avenue and Highway 2 intersection is currently being widened to accommodate projected increased traffic flows. It is also walking distance from the proposed Bowmanville GO train station.

  1. Bowmanville already can’t handle the traffic we get. This will make it much worse. This is a horrible idea!
