No foul play suspected yet after body found in lake

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said they are conducting an investigation after locating a body in the water near Pier Street and Centre Street in Scugog.

It said as a result of this incident a male has been pronounced deceased.

There is no foul play suspected at this time, DRPS added.

Firefighters were called to the Caesarea pier earlier this afternoon (16 February) for an ice rescue, said Mark Berney, Scugog Fire Chief.

“Lake Scugog ice is melting, fragile and not safe, please stay off the ice,” he added.

Traffic Update

Meanwhile, DRPS said yesterday the intersection of Beaton Way and Major Oaks Road in Pickering was closed for a collision investigation.

It said the intersection of Trulls Road and Regional Highway 2 in Courtice was closed for a collision investigation, and the intersection of Regional Highway 2 and Varcoe Road in Courtice too was closed for a collision investigation.

DRPS North Division officers reported that these drivers (below) were stopped for speeding in Greenbank, Scugog.

“Please slow down and obey the speed limit,” they said.
