No GO Train service from tonight until Monday

Durham commuters are reminded that there is no GO Train service on Lakeshore East from April 22-24.

The last westbound train to Union Station departs Oshawa GO at 10:40 pm tonight, while the last eastbound train to Oshawa GO departs at 10:35 pm.

“There will be temporary changes to Lakeshore East train service beginning in the late evening Friday, April 22 until end of service on Sunday, April 24,” according to a statement by Metrolinx, operator of GO Train.

It said the stoppage is to accommodate continued rehabilitation work on the Rouge River Bridge and other important track work along the corridor.

A railway worker died on the Lakeshore East Line in an accident last November 27 (click here for story), during rehabilitation work on the Rouge River Bridge area in Pickering. Work had to be stopped for Labour Ministry investigation.

Metrolinx said buses will replace train service for the weekend beginning late Friday evening.

Replacement buses will service Union Station Bus Terminal and Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa GO stations. There will be no service at Rouge Hill, Guildwood and Eglinton GO, Scarborough and Danforth stations during this time.

Train service will resume on Monday, April 25.
