No word on today’s GO bus service as workers strike

There was no word yesterday from GO Transit and operator Metrolinx on a resolution to a workers strike, which went into effect yesterday and resulted in the stoppage of the bus service.

A GO Transit tweet yesterday said: “Due to an ongoing labour dispute, as of November 7, there will be no GO Bus service”.

However, GO trains and UPExpress service continued to operate.

“We encourage GO bus customers to plan other travel options, including taking GO train service, local transit, etc.” said a statement.

“Plan ahead before you travel and visit the GO website for schedules and info. Use Triplinx for alternate travel options, advised the tweet.

Earlier, Metrolinx advised customers that the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1587’s members, representing GO Transit bus drivers, GO station ambassadors, maintenance personnel, some Customer Protective Services staff and some office staff, are on strike.

“While we remain hopeful we can continue discussions towards reaching a negotiated agreement, Metrolinx has put its full contingency plan into place,” it said.

There are some 2,200 ATU workers striking.
