Ride offers lead to multiple sex assaults; any more victims?

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has arrested a male suspect in connection with an investigation into multiple sexual assaults that occurred in Whitby.

Police are concerned there may be additional victims. The investigation links two separate incidents where the suspect allegedly approached victims in Oshawa, offered them a ride, and then drove them to an area in Whitby where the sexual assaults occurred.

Modus Operandi

The first incident took place on August 17, 2024 at about 11:15 pm, a victim was in the area of Quebec Street in Oshawa when the suspect offered a ride. The victim was driven to an industrial area in Whitby (near Wentworth Street and Thickson Road South) and sexually assaulted, police said.

A second incident occurred on On Sunday, January 12 at about 4:05 am, a second victim was in the area of Simcoe Street South and Hall Street in Oshawa. The suspect again offered a ride and drove the victim to the area of Moore Court and William Smith Drive in Whitby where the sexual assault took place.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday, October 14.

A male suspect, age 39, of Scarborough, is charged with Sexual Assault x2. He was held for a bail hearing.

Any Other Victims?

Due to the nature of the assaults, investigators believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward.
