Officer injured as Kaos tracks driver who fled traffic stop

Durham Regional Police Service K-9 Unit said K9 Kaos was in action again as he tracked a hiding suspect to a shed on Sunday night.

Last night, PC Elkington, K9 Kaos and Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) East Division teamed up to track and locate a perp who fled from a traffic stop.

“After a short track, Kaos located the perp hiding in a shed. A large quantity of drugs and cash was located in the perp’s vehicle. One in custody, said a K9 Unit tweet.

A 21-year-old male was arrested after fleeing from police during a traffic stop in Oshawa on Sunday night, said a following police statement.

On February 6 at about 9 pm, members of East Division conducted a traffic stop in the area of Harmony Road and King Street East. The driver was a suspended driver and had cannabis readily available in the vehicle. During the investigation, the suspect fled. Officers searched for the male with the assistance of our K-9 Unit, and he was eventually located hiding in a shed. Police located and seized cocaine and a large sum of Canadian currency in the vehicle, said the statement.

One of the officers sustained an injury during the foot pursuit and was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, it added.

The suspect from Oshawa is charged with: Obstruct Police; Possess Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking; Drive Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available; Drive Under Suspension and Speeding. He was released on an Undertaking.
