Online death threats lead to arrest by hate crime unit

A man has been arrested by the DRPS Hate Crime and Extremism Unit after he made several anti-semitic death threats online.

In May, investigators from the DRPS East Division Criminal Investigations Branch and Hate Crime and Extremism Unit were contacted by the Vancouver Police Department after receiving information related to an account that made numerous anti-Semitic death threats via the online platform X.

Investigators identified the suspect and on Tuesday, June 2, executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in Clarington. The suspect was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident.

The 58-year old was released on an undertaking. Name available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with information about this or similar incidents is asked to contact the Hate Crime and Extremism Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5800.
