Woman lured to a van and robbed in front of her home

A 63-year old woman was lured to a van by assailants speaking broken Hindi who robbed her while she was on the sidewalk in front of her own home.

Police are searching for a man and woman suspect after they stole jewellery from the older woman in Whitby.

On Wednesday, May 27, members of Central West Division responded to a robbery call in the area of Whitefish Street and Des Newman Boulevard.

At about 6:35 pm, the 63-year-old female victim was on the sidewalk outside of her residence when a grey/silver four-door SUV pulled up along side her.

A male and female suspect spoke ‘broken Hindi’ to call the victim over to their vehicle.

The female suspect in the passenger seat grabbed the victim’s arm to place rings on her fingers, and removed a necklace the victim was wearing, while the male suspect distracted her.

Fake Jewelry

The suspects then threw fake jewellery at the victim before fleeing the area in their vehicle. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.

The first suspect is described as: a man, approximately 40-45 years-old, with a light moustache. He spoke ‘broken Hindi’

The second suspect is described as: a woman, approximately 40-45 years-old, with a black hijab. She spoke ‘broken Hindi’

The suspect vehicle is described as a: grey/silver four-door SUV with tinted windows.
