Online seller robbed of jacket at gunpoint

Durham police investigators are looking for a suspect after a street-level robbery during the sale of an expensive jacket in Oshawa.

On November 30 at about 2:10 pm, members of Central East responded to a street level robbery near Simcoe Street North and Nonquon Road in Oshawa.

The victim had met the suspect in Oshawa to sell him a ‘Moncler’ jacket black in colour. The victim used an online platform to sell his jacket. The suspect met the victim in the parking lot of a school when the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the jacket. The suspect fled on foot towards an apartment on Nonquon Road, police said.

The victim didn’t sustain any physical injuries.

The suspect is described as male, black, 5’8″ tall. He was wearing blue jeans, black jacket, dark shoes and a brown/black mask.

The investigative team from Central East Division wants to warn residents of the increase in these types of incidents and urges sellers to take precautions, including:

  • Meet the purchaser in a public place, preferably during the day in good lighting conditions
  • Bring a friend to support you
  • When approaching the exchange zone, assess your surroundings carefully and beware of suspicious persons in the area
