The City of Oshawa has introduced new reduced speed limits in select Oshawa neighbourhoods.
Following the pilot program, city staff will report their findings and make recommendations for a program regarding future 40 kmh areas throughout Oshawa.
The 40 km/h area pilot program lowers speed limits that are typically 50 kmh to 40 kmh in five neighbourhoods across the city approximately within these boundaries:
- Ward 1 – Conlin Rd. E., Townline Rd. N., Taunton Rd. E., and Harmony Rd. N.
- Ward 2 – Taunton Rd. E., Ritson Rd. N., Rossland Rd. E., and Simcoe St. N.
- Ward 3 – Aldsworth Cres., Townline Rd. N., Adelaide Ave. E., and Langford St.
- Ward 4 – Adelaide Ave. E., Ritson Rd., John St., and the Oshawa Creek
- Ward 5 – Cherrydown Dr., Townline Rd. S., Bloor St. E., and Grandview St. S.
New 40 kmh Area signage are installed at entrances and exits to all neighbourhoods to indicate where the 40 kmh area speed limits are in effect. Maps of each area are available on the City’s website.
The 40 kmh area pilot program was an approved recommendation from the City’s new Neighbourhood Traffic Management Guide, which was updated in 2022 in a process involving two phases of public consultations.
The people that run the city are out to lunch..all this is a money grab .they will make money for city charging people with speeding..so they waste more money on bad ideas
THE 50KM/H SIGNS NOW CAN’T BE ENFORCED OR AREN’T,WHY ARE THEY BEING CHANGED TO 40?THEY HAVE DONE THAT IN PORT PERRY ON OUR STREETS, I SEE NO CHANGE, ON SIMCOE STREET FROM KING STREET TO 7A IT IS 50KM/H . WE JUST HAD ANOTHER WEEKEND GO BY AND SIMCOE STREET IN THIS AREA IS A 50KM/H AND ONE WOULD THINK IT IS THE NASCAR RACE TRACK. CHANGE 100’S OF SIGNS IF THERE IS NO ENFORCEMENT OF THEM IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY.
