Volunteers, members needed on Durham, Oshawa councils

Whitby: Durham Local Diversity and Immigration Partnership Council (LDIPC) is seeking volunteer members from the community as it heads towards advancing diversity and inclusion across Durham Region.

LDIPC acts as a community advisory body guiding the development and execution of the Durham Diversity and Immigration Community Plan.

The deadline for submissions to become a member is noon on August 16.

Volunteers who can speak on behalf of multiple stakeholders and represent the broadest range of interests and voices are an ideal fit for the LDIPC. The LDIPC is currently recruiting members from diverse sectors of the community, such as business, settlement services, and employment, skills and training.

Appointment of citizens to Oshawa Committees

The appointment of citizens to boards and committees give the public an opportunity to volunteer their skills and time to deal with various issues associated with Oshawa.

Oshawa City Council will consider the names of citizens who wish to stand for appointment. An application form must be completed and is available at City Clerk Services, City Hall, Fifth Floor, Rundle Tower, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa or at www.oshawa.ca (News & Alerts). The deadline for receipt of completed application forms is 4:30 pm, Friday, August 23, 2019.

Applicants will be contacted for an interview.

The Committees

Heritage Oshawa: Monthly meetings and committee work related to heritage conservation of buildings. Term is December 2019 to November 2021 (3 appointments).

Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee: Advise and assist the city in developing and facilitating strategies and actions towards a barrier-free Oshawa. Members include persons with disabilities, parents representing children with disabilities and individuals interested in issues related to persons with disabilities. Term is December 2019 to November 2021 (3 persons with a disability), December 2019 to November 2020 (1 person with a disability), December 2019 to November 2021(two interested parties).

Oshawa Active Transportation Advisory Committee: To advise and assist City Council and City staff on matters relating to the design, development, implementation and monitoring of policies, programs and facilities to enhance and promote a safe, sustainable and accessible active transportation system within the City of Oshawa. Term is December 2019 to November 2021 (4 appointments).

Oshawa Environmental Advisory Committee: Assist, advise and educate City Council, staff, and the community with respect to the protection, enhancement, restoration, management and appreciation of the natural and built environments. Regular monthly meetings are held with the exception of July and August. Term is December 2019 to November 2021 (5 appointments).
