Oshawa arenas return to full capacity for spectators

Oshawa has announced its recreation facilities will begin accepting enhanced vaccine certificates with QR codes and city arenas will return to full capacity limits for spectators, effective Friday, October 22, 2021.

Community members who are eligible to be fully vaccinated must show proof of vaccination, along with government issued ID (birth certificate, driver’s licence, health card, passport) to attend a city recreation facility for the following:

  • Those who are 18 years of age and older who are attending for any purpose. Certain exemptions apply, see Ontario Releasing Guidance to Support Proof of Vaccination Policy for more information.
  • Those who are 12 years of age and older who are attending for the use of fitness centres and indoor tracks, gymnasiums, tennis and squash courts, leisure swimming and skating, and drop-in sports.
  • Those who are 12 years of age and older attending for the purpose of spectating at any activity.
  • Those who are participating in a registered program that has been marked with the requires a vaccination symbol. See the Fall 2021 activeOshawa Guide for more information.

Effective Friday, October 22, community members will be able to use their enhanced vaccine certificate when attending city recreation facilities. The enhanced vaccine certificate includes a QR code that can be scanned and validated. QR codes can be saved to a mobile device or printed as a paper copy. Both electronic and paper versions will be accepted, said a city statement.

While vaccines without a QR code will continue to be accepted, community members are encouraged to download their enhanced vaccine certificate with a QR code as an easier, more secure and convenient way to have their proof of vaccination verified.

Proof of vaccination is not required for those between the ages of 12 and 17 years who are actively participating in indoor organized sports, dance classes, martial arts, or swimming lessons. Additionally, proof of vaccination is not required for children who are 11 years of age and younger and are unable to be vaccinated. More information about exemptions is available at Oshawa.ca/ReopeningRecreation.

All Ontarians can download an enhanced certificate with QR code from the provincial booking portal. Those who do not have access to a computer or printer can call the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900.

City arenas that will return to full capacity include:

  • Children’s Arena
  • Delpark Homes Centre Arenas
  • Donevan Recreation Complex Arena
  • Harman Park Arena

Proof of vaccination is required for spectators 12 years of age and older, and all spectators will be required to complete and pass the City of Oshawa Covid-19 Screening Form prior to entering an arena. During their visit, spectators are required to wear a mask or face covering (with the exception of those who have health, respiratory and sensory issues, various disabilities; are unable to remove the mask without assistance; and, children under the age of two; or for religious reasons), maintain physical distancing from others, and adhere to physical distancing markers.
