Oshawa hopes Gulfstream Park will soon be buzzing with even more activity thanks to a partnership with St. Anne Catholic Elementary School and support from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
St. Anne students recently joined Oshawa Parks staff to help plant the Gulfstream Park Pollinator Garden (2471 Bridle Road). Oshawa’s newest pollinator garden was made possible with a $6,807 grant from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, a national charity that funds environmental projects across Canada, said a city statement.
The Gulfstream Park Pollinator Garden is Oshawa’s sixth pollinator garden and features native plantings designed to attract pollinators such as birds, bees and butterflies that help flowering plants develop seeds or fruit. This process is vital to maintaining the earth’s ecosystem and food supply.
In turn, St. Anne students will have the opportunity to study the impact of pollinator gardens first hand by regularly visiting and gardening in the Gulfstream Park Pollinator Garden located just north of the elementary school.
This project reflects Oshawa’s continued commitment as a designated Bee City by raising awareness about pollinators and their habitats.
More information about pollinator gardens is available on the City of Oshawa’s website including tips and resources for creating your own pollinator garden at home.
