Bowmanville parking fee by phone in days, by card planned

The Municipality of Clarington yesterday announced a new payment option for parking in Downtown Bowmanville, allowing visitors to pay with their smartphones.

This will be in addition to the continued pay-by-coin feature available both on-street and in municipal parking lots. However, direct credit and debit card payment is still not available.

“We are investigating upgrading the pay-and-display machines at the municipal parking lots so that visitors can pay with their credit/debit cards directly. However, that modernization would be in the future,” said a Clarington spokesperson when asked by Durham Post.

The new parking app will officially launch on Tuesday, September 5.

“We want to ensure visitors can conveniently and easily access our wonderful downtown stores and restaurants. This new payment method will give residents and visitors more choice and greater convenience when paying for parking,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster, in an issued statement.

Clarington engaged with business owners in the Historic Downtown Bowmanville Business Improvement Area (BIA) to introduce this modern payment option.

Residents and visitors will notice new signs and parking meter stickers at regular intervals throughout the paid parking zones in downtown Bowmanville, promoting the new payment option. Drivers have the option to download the HotSpot app or use their phone’s camera to scan the QR code.
