Planes, bus riders asked to contact doctors

Passengers who travelled with the Covid-19 infected woman on her flight from Iran to Canada via Denmark or on her GO bus journey from Pearson Airport to Richmond Hill, have been asked to go in for a health risk assessment.

“Individuals who traveled in the business class sections of Qatar Airways flights QR 483 or QR 163 on Tuesday, February 25, or in the business class section of Air Canada flight AC 883 or the upper deck of GO bus 40 (travelling eastbound) on Wednesday, February 26 (at approximately 3:55 pm), may have been exposed to this positive case of Covid-19 and are asked to contact York Region Public Health at 1-800-361-5653, Monday to Sunday between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for further assessment,” said an announcement from York Region Public Health.

The woman travelled from Iran on Tuesday, February 25, with a layover in Denmark. She developed symptoms prior to return and was symptomatic on her flights, said the announcement.

While it may be easier to get a list of accompanying passengers and crew from the airlines, GO Transit said it was trying to identify bus riders who used their Presto cards to board the bus. Those who used cash have been urged to come forward.

The individual is currently in self-isolation recovering at home. As a result of the coordinated efforts of our healthcare and public health system, the individual was quickly assessed and isolated, said the announcement.

York Region Public Health continues active follow-up of all close contacts of this positive case. Individuals that were not in direct or close contact with the individual are not considered at risk of becoming infected, it said.
