Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is reminding residents to lock their vehicles and is encouraging the public to participate in the ‘9 pm Routine’ to help ensure their vehicles and property are protected.
The 9 pm routine involves locking all vehicle doors, windows and removing all valuables from your vehicle.
9 pm Routine Checklist:
- Ensure all vehicle doors are locked
- Remove all valuables, including electronics from plain sight; taking them inside
- Ensure all windows are rolled up
- Ensure outdoor security is on including motion sensor lights or security cameras
DRPS gave some further tips to protect your vehicle and the contents inside:
- Do not leave your car running unattended
- Never hide a spare key inside your vehicle or outside your home
- If you hear or see suspicious activity outside your home activate your car alarm on your key fob and contact police.
