Police investigating antisemitic vandalism at Whitby park

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is investigating a serious incident of antisemitic vandalism at Prince of Wales Park in Whitby, according to town Mayor Elizabeth Roy.

She urged anyone with information about this incident to contact Durham police at 905-579-1520, or make an anonymous tip to Durham Regional Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca.

Town of Whitby staff have been dispatched to the park and will take immediate action to ensure the vandalism is covered until it can be repaired, she added.

“On behalf of Whitby Council, I condemn this act of hate in the strongest possible terms,” she said. “The Town of Whitby embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strive to make our town a place where everyone feels a sense of belonging and safety.”

Mayor Roy pointed out that this incident is an attack on the values that define us as a community and will not be tolerated. “The actions of a hateful few cannot and will not define us. It is critical that we stand united as a community against all forms of hate and intolerance.”
