Police look for man who demanded cash at gunpoint and fled

Durham police are searching for a male suspect after an armed robbery at a convenience store in Bowmanville in the Municipality of Clarington.

On Sunday, January 4, around 6:10 pm, members of East Division responded to an armed person call at Liberty Best Variety located at 83 Liberty Street South.

A male entered the store and demanded cash while pointing a firearm at an employee who was standing behind the checkout counter. The suspect fled the area with a quantity of cash prior to police arrival.

No employees suffered any physical injuries, police said.

Anyone with cellphone, dash cam, or surveillance footage from Sunday, January 3, 2026, between 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, or information about this incident is asked the Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
