Police on home dispute call deploy taser to disarm woman

A woman was safely taken into custody after arming herself with a knife during a dispute at a residence in Ajax, according to Durham Regional Police.

On Tuesday, June 10, at about 12:30 am, officers from West Division responded to reports of a dispute involving multiple individuals. While officers were speaking with those involved, one woman suddenly ran into the kitchen and returned with a knife.

Police say she refused to drop the weapon, prompting officers to deploy a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW). The woman was safely disarmed and taken into custody without further incident.

Durham Regional Police emphasized that the appropriate use of the CEW helped bring a potentially dangerous situation to a safe resolution.
