Rain does not dampen police runners & riders

The rainy start to the day didn’t dampen the spirits of riders and runners as they travelled through Durham Region on their way to the 42nd National Police and Peace Memorial in Ottawa Sunday.

DRPS members joined a team of 195 cyclists (a record number this year) and over 300 runners taking part in the ride and run to remember events.

Cyclists ride 700 kilometres during their journey, while runners cover 460 kilometres before reaching the nation’s capital on Sunday. There they will join thousands to honour those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The runners and riders aim to raise awareness of the annual service and pay tribute to those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The annual service is held the last Sunday of every September on Parliament Hill.

DRPS has a 12-member team in the 2019 National Police and Peace Officer Memorial Run & Ride. They honour the 870 colleagues in the law enforcement community who have fallen in the line of duty. Their names are engraved on the Honour Roll tablets along the perimeter wall on Parliament Hill.
