An attempted traffic stop of a reckless teen on a dirt bike led to firearm and drug charges in Oshawa, say DRPS.
On Wednesday, April 8, at about 4:45 pm, members of Central East Division initiated a traffic stop on a dirt bike after observing it drive the wrong way on a one-way street and at high rates of speed in a reckless manner. The dirt bike failed to stop for police and fled the area.
DRPS 911-Commmunications received calls from bystanders who provided an updated location and advised the driver had abandoned the dirt bike and fled on foot. Officers located the suspect and after a brief foot pursuit took him into custody.
A search of a satchel the suspect had discarded while running located a loaded handgun with a high-capacity prohibited magazine, and drugs.
The 17-year old from Oshawa was held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Curwain of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2063.
