Durham police yesterday said two of its officers were ‘significantly’ injured in a scuffle trying to stop a man from barging into a police only property in Oshawa.
On Wednesday, April 8, around 7 pm, members responded to the parking lot of Central East Division after receiving an emergency alert for immediate assistance from other officers.
An unknown man had entered a police-only area of the property and confronted two on-duty officers. The suspect approached and assaulted the two officers resulting in significant injuries to both, police said.
The injured officers with assistance from responding officers quickly restrained the suspect and took him into custody following a conducted energy weapon (taser) deployment.
Both injured officers were transported to a local-area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 25-year old suspect of no fixed address was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca. The motive for the attack was not provided.
Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1705.
