Members of Oshawa City Council and neighbourhood residents celebrated the re-opening of Deer Valley Park and its new splash pad at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Redeveloped Deer Valley Park opens to the public

Members of Oshawa City Council were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate a new splash pad at Deer Valley Park and upgrades to the park including new play equipment.

Located at 870 Deer Valley Drive, the 2.03-hectare park is situated off Thornton Road, north of Rossland Road.

The Deer Valley Park redevelopment project included a new splash pad, junior play equipment, a large climbing structure, swings and additional seating with shade. The park also has an accessible park pathway and accessible swing, as well as a soccer field with players’ benches and bleachers. Tree plantings throughout the park provide both shade and habitat opportunities, said a city statement.

Community engagement was undertaken in fall 2021 on preferred playground equipment and accessibility. Construction of the upgrades to the playground and sports field were completed by the end of 2022; the splash pad, pathways and plantings were completed in spring of 2023.

“We are excited to offer another revitalized outdoor space in the great City of Oshawa,” said Mayor Dan Carter. “Deer Valley Park will undoubtedly provide hours of fun for the children and residents of all ages in this neighbourhood. Enjoy!”
