How a driver tried to beat plate identification at toll

A driver tried – unsuccessfully – to beat the toll identification system in Clarington by masking the number plate.

Toll Highway 407 runs through Clarington.

But the driver could not get past the eagle-eyed Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers, who are now equipped with the ALPRS (automatic licence plate reading system).

“One has to wonder if the driver of this vehicle thought it was ‘NICE 2 C OFFICERS’ when they were pulled over for ‘Obstruct plate preventing identification toll system’, said a tweet from DRPS East Division.

The driver was fined $110 and given various other tickets.

“Don’t alter your plates!” police said.

And, yes, DRPS can give out tickets on 400-series highways, it added.
