Residents reminded to cast ballots in municipal polls

Advance voting has begun and the Region of Durham is encouraging eligible residents to cast their ballots for the 2022 municipal elections.

On October 24, or through advance voting opportunities, eligible voters in Ontario will head to the polls for the 2022 municipal elections. As part of this process, electors will have the chance to choose who will represent them at the municipal and regional level, for the next four years, said a statement.

When: The 2022 municipal election will take place on October 24. Contact your local municipality directly (Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge and Whitby) to learn more about voting methods, dates and locations, and to find out if you are on the voters’ list.

Where: Depending on the municipality, votes may be cast via mail, telephone, online or in person.

Who: Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is:

  • 18 years of age or older;
  • A Canadian citizen;
  • A resident of the municipality or the owners or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • Not otherwise prohibited from voting.

The region said Durham voters will have the chance to vote for the Regional Chair/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Durham Region, as well as mayors, local and regional councillors, and school board trustees. To learn more, please visit durham.ca/Elections.

Residents can now access municipal elections information through the myDurham 311 Smart Home Device Voice Service, available through Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa Marketplace.
