On of the jobs of any policing body is to raise awareness and educate, and that is exactly what DRPS Traffic Services did yesterday.
On Winchester Road and Highway 407 in the Town of Whitby, officers spotted a speeding driver who failed to stop on the right for an emergency vehicle.
The motorist was cautioned for stunt driving as the person was repeatedly changing lanes in close proximity to other vehicles so as to advance through the ordinary flow of traffic, said the police.
“This G2 driver is now fully educated,” it added.
22 tickets in2 hours: DRPS Traffic Services said a traffic enforcement initiative was carried out on Baldwin Street North in Whitby.
The results are 22 tickets which included two school zone drive, and one for hand held communication device. This initiative was over a period of two hours.
DRPS Traffic Services was also keeping an eye on the stop signs at Carnwith and Watford in Whitby.
“… stop means stop… not slow, not roll through, STOP. Please be aware of your surroundings on the roadway,” said a tweet.
On Westney Road and Magill Drive in the Town of Ajax, police stopped a vehicle for doing 83/60 kmh zone (below).
Driver had no licenced and plate was last validated in 2020. Appropriate charges were laid.
Meanwhile on Parkside Drive and Aspen Road in the City of Pickering police were monitoring a community safety zone.
In less than 15 minutes, four different drivers were charged for disobey stop sign – fail to stop, police said.
DRPS Traffic Services said using a turn lane to overtake traffic is not only unsafe, it’s illegal.
Selfish and aggressive actions will not be tolerated on our roadways. Share the road, drive safely and follow the rules. Charges were laid, it added.
