Residents urged to join Backyard Tree Planting program

The City of Pickering is proud to be supporting a subsidized tree/shrub planting program again this year, offered in partnership with the Region of Durham and LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests).

The LEAF Backyard Tree Planting Program offers subsidized native trees and shrubs for residential, multi-unit, and commercial property owners in Toronto, York Region, and several municipalities across Durham Region, said a sgatement.

Participants can choose the Full Service Planting Program or the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Planting Program.

The Full Service option offers an in-person arborist consultation, a native tree, and a full planting service from experienced LEAF staff (for $150 to $220 per tree).

The DIY option offers a virtual consultation with an arborist, a native tree delivered to the participants home, and easy-to-follow training for planting (for $100 to $170 per tree). This option applies to front, side, and back yards.

To apply to the Backyard Tree Planting Program, visit yourleaf.org or call 416.413.9244

“We offer easy and affordable tree planting options!” says Erin MacDonald, Acting Executive Director, LEAF. “We help participants choose the right native trees for their spaces and equip them with the resources to help their trees survive and thrive. We’re excited to help Pickering residents green their yards and wider communities.”
