RIDE 2022: Almost 80 above speed limit… and impaired

With the snowfall and freezing temperatures, the roads may be slick, icy, and really dark at nighttime, but for Durham daredevils, this is probably the season to show off their skills.

However, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers were waiting for this particular driver (top image).

Doing 138kmh in a 60 zone… and alcohol in your system – it’s never worth it, said DRPS Traffic Services.

They said the driver got two suspensions, three charges and 14-day vehicle impound.

“Slow down and drive sober,” they advised.

DRPS launched the seasonal Festive RIDE 2022 campaign across Durham on Friday.

In one of our RIDE lines a driver already suspended for unpaid fines was stopped and issued an additional suspension for blowing an Alert, said another tweet from the police.

“This driver [below] was charged and removed from our roadway. Please drive licenced and sober,” said the police.

Meanwhile, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division, advised drivers that if they see ominous clouds in front, be prepared for challenging winter driving conditions.

DRPS officers from North Division also advised residents to avoid travel if possible due to white out conditions and dangerous roadways. Stay safe.

They were at Brock Concession Road 14 and Highway 12 in Beaverton.
