Robber sprays store clerk, takes off with lottery tickets

Durham Police investigators are looking for an armed suspect in a robbery of a convenience store in Ajax.

On Sunday, March 20 at about 6:40 pm, members of West Division were called to the Food Mart convenience store on Westney Road for a commercial robbery. The suspect while armed with a knife and pepper spray, entered the store and made a demand for cash. The clerk was sprayed with what is believed to be pepper spray. The suspect then stole a quantity of lottery tickets before fleeing the store, said a police statement.

The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries due to the irritant being sprayed in his eyes, it added.

The suspect is described as male, White, 25-35 years of age, slim build, 6 feet tall. He wore a black jacket with grey sleeves, hooded sweater, black shirt, jeans and blue Nike shoes.
