New 21-storey apartment building for 70 King Street

A Planning Act public meeting is to be held regarding applications submitted by TT7 Inc. to amend the Oshawa Official Plan (File: OPA-2022-01) and Zoning By-law 60-94 (File: Z-2022-01) for lands located at 70 King Street East.

The applicant proposes to develop a new 21-storey apartment building containing 114 apartment units. The existing mixed use commercial/residential building (former Genosha Hotel) will be maintained, said a city statement.

The applicant also proposes to construct two additional floors on the existing city-owned parking garage located directly east of the subject lands, at the northeast corner of King Street East and Mary Street North, to provide appropriate off-site parking.

The purpose and effect of these applications is to:

  1. Amend the Oshawa Official Plan to add a site specific policy to permit the proposed residential density of 972 units per hectare; and,
  2. Amend Zoning By-law 60-94 by rezoning the lands from CBD-A.T25 (Central Business District) to an appropriate CBD-A (Central Business District) Zone, to implement the proposed development with site specific conditions to permit certain performance standards such as, but not limited to, increased residential density and building height, zero on-site parking spaces, and reduced building setbacks to street lines above 12m in height.

The applications have been determined to be complete.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held on April 11 at 6:30 pm at the Council Chamber in Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre Street South.
