Robbers target cellphone stores in Whitby, Oshawa

Durham Police investigators are looking for two suspects after two separate robberies at cellphone stores in Whitby and Oshawa.

On Sunday, February 27 at about 4:45 pm, members of Central East Division were called to the Telus Mobility store on King Street East in Oshawa for a commercial robbery.

Two suspects entered the store and made a demand for cellphones. The suspects indicated that they had a gun, but none was seen. The suspects fled from the store with cellphones and cash before they drove off in a black vehicle, said a police media release.

The victim did not receive any physical injuries. Officers searched the area, with negative results, it added.

Further investigation revealed that the same two suspects were in attendance at a Telus/Koodo Mobile store at Dundas Street East in the Whitby Mall approximately 45 minutes prior to the Oshawa robbery. The two suspects were inquiring about cellphones and left in a hurry, empty handed.

The suspects are described as both male, Black, wearing all dark clothing.

Robbery at Oshawa convenience store 

Investigators are also looking for a suspect in a robbery of a convenience store in Oshawa.

On February 19 at 7:17 pm, members of Central East Division were called to the Circle K convenience store on Simcoe Street North for a commercial robbery. The suspect entered the store and was involved in a verbal altercation with the clerk and a customer. After the customer left, the suspect shoved the clerk and stole lottery tickets before fleeing in a black SUV, police said.

The victim did not receive any physical injuries. Officers searched the area, with negative results.

The suspect is described as male, White, mid 40’s. He wore a red baseball cap and a black coat.
